Skills and the will to grow

Do not expect to approach your project fully prepared. Rather, bring a set of foundational skills and the will to grow yourself through the challenge.

Metaphorically speaking

Research means exploring. As an explorer, you don’t embark on a journey that solely takes you places you already know. Being an explorer means that you go where you have not (and maybe no-one has) been before. This entails that you will encounter challenges you will not have met or mastered before. The central question is whether you are up to grow to meet the challenge.

On the other hand, any responsible explorer will only undertake excursions that they consider as balanced in risk and return. The sense of an exploration is to return from it to tell the tale. There is no use in setting up explorations that will certainly overburden the explorer, leave them exhausted, and the journey’s destination unvisited.
